wems fest

We will welcome acoustic blues players Hat Fitz & Cara to the wonderfully atmospheric Chidham & Hambrook Village Hal on Sunday 7 May with a new album – which is already gathering many favourable plaudits- under their collective belts.

The amazing kora player Tunde Jegede plays the same venue on Sunday 25 June and we’re awaiting confirmation on a date for Nashville-based Don Gallardo in early July.

Meanwhile over at The Spring (Havant) we’ve 3 ‘Up Close and Personal’ shows by some cracking musicians:

Saturday 22 April Jeff Lang is back for his first UK dates in 4 years. This charismatic and inventive Australian guitarist has to be seen to be believed.

Saturday 13 May Julian Dawson – a man who spends more time in Germany and the USA than he ought to, but that’s because they appreciate his musicianship and superbly crafted songs. You might have caught him over here as part of Plainsong along with Ian Matthews, Andy Roberts, and Boo Hewerdine.

Saturday 15 July Sean Taylor – a prolific journeyman who recorded his most recent album ‘Flood & Burn’ in Austin (TX) and it was produced by Mark Hallman.

“ a wonderfully talented modern troubadour whose sincere, thoughtful songs pull you in. I’ve had the pleasure of sharing the stage with him. He swings. Check him out.” Eric Bibb

After this we’ll take a short break before launching the 6th WemsFest which includes the fabulous Irish traditional band Dervish, 1920s New Orleans-sytyle jazz from The Dime Notes featuring US piano player Andrew Oliver, and Chris Barber’s clarinetist David Horniblow among their line-up, Fairport Convention, and many more events to be confirmed.

Bluesman Eddie Martin will be bringing his trio to The Spring for an album launch and a Harp Workshop on November 18, fellow bluesmen Derrin Nauendorf & Jaimi Faulkner will be at the same venue on Saturday 9 December.

Tickets for all these shows (except The Spring events) are available from Harbour Records (Emsworth), and online from www.wegottickets.com
