HAMBLEDON FOLK CLUB

Wednesday 9 March - Andy Turner and Mat Green are both founder members of Magpie Lane, providing the instrumental drive at the heart of the band’s repertoire. Andy has a punchy, rhythmic concertina style but also plays in a slower, smoother style to accompany his own fine singing while Mat has developed a unique, fiery, quintessentially English fiddle style. They specialise in little-known tunes from eighteenth and nineteenth century village musicians' tune books and intersperse the tunes with songs, mainly from English traditional sources but with some surprises thrown in.

Wednesday 13 April - Walker Broad Band
HAMBLEDON FOLK CLUB
A welcome return of this lively and accomplished four piece band who defy genre, blending strains of blues, jazz, Latin and folk into original, witty and surprising songs with catchy lyrics. Andy Broad is a very able guitarist whose subtle and mellow style combines delicate jazz undertones with full bloodied blues playing, while Sandy Walker has a rich and powerful voice which lends itself to a diverse range of material from lyrical Sandy Denny songs to earthy blues. They are joined by Simon Tufnail on fretless bass and Alan Blackmore on cajón and various other unusual percussive instruments. www.walkerbroad.co.uk
11 May - Hickman and Cassidy
8 June - Quicksilver
