The Women’s Land Army: The Battle of the Fields - Emsworth Library, Friday 24 March at 7:30pm
The work of the Women's Land Army is something of a forgotten history. Yet, the work these women did on land, often in terrible conditions, was vital to the success of the war effort. They played a crucial part in increasing levels of productivity from the land in both World Wars. This illustrated talk by Gill Clarke, visiting Professor and Guest Curator at the Bishop Otter Gallery, University of Chichester, tells their story and those of the artists and illustrators who recorded their heroic work.
