Monday 12th September - 1900 for 1930 ‘Working with Breitling – as an Aviation Project’, Consultant – Melvyn James
Former Wing Commander in the RAF on a NATO tour on the Eurofighter ‘Typhoon’ project and Chief Engineer of the Royal International Air Tattoo, Mel James was in a perfect position, to give a positive reply, when Breitling SA Switzerland invited him to be the project engineer for two innovative aviation projects.

Hot Air BalloonThis talk covers Mel's reply in detail and outlines the problems encountered setting up a company air display team based on the Harrier, and the successful Orbiter project to design and fly a manned balloon around the world.

Monday 26th September - 1900 for 1930 hrs - ‘The Rise and Fall of the Strathallen Collection’ – Dick Richardson
The Strathallan Museum was an aircraft museum located at Strathallan Airfield, near Auchterardar in Scotland. It housed a remarkable collection of historic aircraft, mostly from the WWII period, had a programme of rebuilding historic aircraft, often in public view, as well as a display of aero engines dating from 1916. The Aircraft Collection closed in 1980, following the sale of most of its aircraft.

‘Flying in the Fleet Air Arm during the Cold War’ - Commander Michael Maddox, OBE, RN - During a 37 year career, Mike Maddox served in frontline Naval Air Squadrons equipped with the Sea Vixen, Buccaneer, Phantom and ASW Sea King helicopters. His final appointment was as a Commanding Officer of the unit that controlled the RAF electronic Warfare Squadron which was equipped with Canberra aircraft.

In this talk, Mike will describe the diverse operations undertaken by Naval Aviators during the Cold War period. This promises to be a fascinating evening.

The talks are held at the Chichester Park Hotel, Westhampnett Road, Chichester, 7.00 for 7.30 pm. Admission for members is £3, non-members £5 and under 16s FREE.
