A SHARED MOMENT OF CELEBRATION

8 May - From 1100AM free events and a static display of military vehicles and equipment will take place across the car parks of the Ferry Boat Inn and Johns Café.

Commencing at 1800hrs the Denmead Brass Band will perform a programme of music including the full ceremony of Sunset and lowering of flags followed by music from the Last Night of the Proms as Hayling’s beacon is lit, together with a pyrotechnic display.
The Hayling Young Stars will perform songs from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

The army and RAF cadets will give a drill display and HMS Excellent cadets will provide a Boer War field gun run.

During the bands break the Warner’s Lakeside entertainments team will perform a programme of celebratory music and song and lead youngsters in the Sailors Hornpipe.

Prior to the Sunset ceremony a short remembrance ceremony will be held by Father Mark, a former Royal Marine pastor, with a wreath being laid in the harbour by the Langstone Harbour Master.

Haying Military veterans will participate as will the Royal British Legion, the Hayling Army cadets 3rd Platoon, RAF Air Cadets 2327 (Havant) Squadron, Singing Group Timeless will perform music and songs from WWI.

Due to the limitation on parking the public are advised to park in the council car parks at Beachlands where the City of Portsmouth Preserved Transport Depot will provide the former double decker Hayling Ferry bus to transport from outside the Beachlands council office to the ferry and back from 1800 until 2130.

The public are invited to bring folding chairs for use in the ferry boat car park.
