Volunteers Support Cancer Charity

Volunteers support cancer charityThree volunteer Barratt Homes employees visited a charity to help out at a coffee morning held for people living with cancer by preparing a table with colourful decorations, put out all the food and have a chat with some of the centre visitors.

Maggie’s ‘Kitchen Table Day’ tea party-style social event aimed at bringing people together so that those living with cancer, and their families, can meet other people, tackle loneliness and offer support to one another.

Maggie’s charity offers free support to anyone with cancer and their families and its centres are found alongside NHS hospitals across the country. It also provides support online.

Will Ham, Centre Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s Southampton said he was particularly impressed with the team’s input for the day.

He said: “With a very tight deadline, the Barratt team got straight to work and helped with everything that needed doing with vigour and keenness. It was a joy to see them brighten up our visitors’ days with their cheerful, yet sensitive conversations. Our thanks go to Barratt Homes, its employees are a real credit, and it would be a pleasure to have their help again in the future.”

Anthony Dimmick, Barratt Homes Community Liaison Manager is pleased the developer has been able to help.

He said: “We want to support organisations in the communities where we are building new homes, and Maggie’s is providing an incredible service for people in the local area. It was great to see our wonderful team get stuck in at the centre today.”

Maggie’s offers practical and emotional support for those living with cancer, as well as information and advice for families and friends. Its support specialists, psychologists and benefits advisors are on hand to help whenever it’s needed.

Maggie’s Southampton is situated alongside Southampton General Hospital.

Barratt Homes is committed to supporting local causes which improve the quality of life for those living in the region, and its employees are all entitled to two days per year to take as volunteering days, so that they can work for a local charity of their choosing.
