Promising construction career ahead for Charlie

Barratt Homes has taken on a brand-new apprentice in Hampshire as part of its commitment to nurturing local talent.

The company has taken on 16-year-old Charlie Simmonds from Drayton as a carpentry apprentice at its Berewood Green development in Waterlooville.

Working alongside a team of experienced construction experts from Barratt Homes and Portsmouth Carpentry, Charlie will play an important part in creating the brand-new community. Berewood Green will feature 219 new homes, bringing much needed new homes to the region. Seeing the houses all built at the end is really rewarding.”

Charlie will have the benefit of ‘earning while he’s learning’ thanks to his apprenticeship with Barratt Homes. It’s good that I’m earning money while I’m working towards my qualification.”

Anthony Dimmick, community liaison manager at Barratt Homes, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Charlie to our growing team. It’s rewarding to know that as well as building homes we’re building the foundations for careers.”

Ganesh Selvarajah, Economic Development Officer for Havant Borough Council, said: “We have a very good relationship working with Barratt Homes which has advanced over the years.

“Their apprenticeship scheme develops the skills required for working on modern building sites, as well as aiding the individual in completing a recognised qualification in their chosen field.”
