Final Straw is back cleaning beaches, and needs your help!

Emsworth-based environmental charity the Final Straw Foundation called on volunteers to get involved as it celebrated its first official beach clean up post-Covid.

Over 55 volunteers attended Final Straw Foundation’s beach clean on 5 June 2021, World Environment Day, on Hayling Island, spread out along around two miles of shoreline and footpaths.

In just over two hours, in blazing sunshine, families and children collected 240 lbs - just over 100kg - of litter, including four shoes, crisp packets, sweet wrappers, straws, cotton bud sticks and plastic bottles of all shapes and sizes.

The charity, which campaigns against single-use plastic waste, says the pandemic crisis has led to a worrying increase in litter on Britain’s beaches.
