YOUTH DINGHY SAIL TRAINING GETS BOOST FROM ROTARY

Youth Dinghy Sail Training gets boostFor the second year in succession Havant Rotary have been pleased to support the Havant Youth Sail Training Scheme (HYSTS) by providing a range of essential equipment including on the water Walkie Talkie radios, dinghy trolley, and heavy duty hand winch.

The scheme aims to give youngsters from 8 to 18 from all backgrounds, opportunities to experience dinghy sailing under the guidance of qualified RYA instructors. The sessions are held throughout the sailing season from their base alongside the Ship Public House at Langstone with on the water sessions in the safe confines of the harbour. Youngsters taking part are evenly split between boys and girls with the majority living in the Havant, Hayling, and Emsworth area with others coming from as far afield as Petersfield and Hambledon. Mike Sellis, President of Havant Rotary says “HYSTS provides a great opportunity for our local young people to learn new skills whilst having an enormous amount of fun on the water. It raises self esteem, develops personal/social skills and confidence all whilst also providing an active life style which they can enjoy for years to come. The club is delighted to be able to include HYSTS in our wide sweeping programme of support for local youth projects”.
