Open day with a difference at The Oaks Crematorium

The public are invited to see behind the scenes and find out more about how The Oaks, Havant Crematorium is run at an open day on Saturday 25 April from 10am-2pm.

Guided tours will show visitors around the whole crematorium, including the service hall, behind the scenes and gardens outside. The Oaks can accommodate traditional religious or secular funeral services for any culture and ethnicity as well as any other alternative forms of farewell; making it a celebration of a life well lived, rather than the death that has just occurred.”

Manager Roddy McGinley saya that whilst it may seem a little unusual to host an open day at a crematorium, we want to demystify and dispel any myths about cremation and give visitors the opportunity to ask questions, talk to me and the team who work here and fulfil their curiosity. Usually the only time someone visits is when they are grieving the loss of a loved one, so we hope that our open day will give visitors an interesting and reassuring insight into cremation. Colleagues from The Bereavement Centre, which offers free bereavement counselling and hosts support and friendship groups, will also be available to meet informally over coffee and cake. Visitors can also watch flower arranging demonstrations given by The Co-operative Florist and pick up tips and guidance from the florists.

Co-operative has been working with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust to protect and enhance the environment and wildlife in the grounds. Visitors will be invited to join a walk and talk tour of the grounds.
