New mural unveiled at Mengham Play Park on Hayling Island

A first-of-its-kind mural project, undertaken through a Havant Borough Council initiative, to bring a cheerful new look to a play park was unveiled at a celebration.

Play Parks For Hayling (PP4H), a local group supported by the council have been extremely active to ensure new play equipment is installed in Mengham Play Park on Hayling Island. As part of the redevelopment the play area has also gained an incredibly artistic and highly detailed seaside mural.

With the assistance of South East Hampshire Community Outlook (SEHCO) Step Forward Project, funded by the Big Lottery, 82 students from Hayling College submitted design ideas which lead to 18 young people’s work directly forming the final design.

The work to renovate, render and paint the wall with the chosen seaside themed mural was undertaken by SEHCO together with internationally recognised artist

The Mayor of Havant, Councillor Leah Turner, a founding member of the Play Parks for Hayling Team said “I am delighted with this wonderful mural which is a result of joint working between Havant Borough Council, PP4H and SEHCO. It certainly finishes off the refurbishment of Mengham Play Park beautifully”.
