Have you ever thought what it would be like to climb to the roof of Africa? Would you like to take on a once in a life time challenge and help raise vital funds to keep Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance flying and saving lives? Then our Kilimanjaro Trek 2015 could be for you.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance are looking for champions in search of a challenge to join a trek to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania in February 2015. At nearly 6,000m, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest mountain and the six day trek is not for the faint hearted. However, anyone who is reasonably fit should be able to make the ascent, and what better way to start the New Year than with a resolution to achieve a personal goal and help save lives at the same time?
For Matthew Davis from Upton, Near Andover, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is an opportunity to celebrate the life of his daughter Lily, who was conveyed to Southampton General Hospital by HIOWAA in 2102. ‘We are eternally grateful to the Air Ambulance for everything that they did for Lily. She would have been three years old on 1st January 2015, and we see the Kilimanjaro trek as a great way to celebrate her life and raise funds and awareness for HIOWAA’, commented her mother, Felicity Davis. Mr Davis will be joined by Lily’s uncle, Doug Evans.
The trek will be led by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Community Fundraiser, James King, who will be there to spur participants on when the going gets tough, and to offer training and fundraising tips throughout 2014. James commented ‘We have had an amazing response to our Kilimanjaro call to action and this will be an important fundraising opportunity for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance in 2015. We need more people to take up the challenge, and to make it their New Year’s resolution to ‘Reach New Heights and Help Save Lives’.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance receives no government, statutory or national lottery funding for operational purposes, relying entirely on the generosity of the people and businesses of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to keep the Air Ambulance flying and saving lives.
