Coconut and Chocolate is based in Hayling Island, Alice set up C&C after not being able to find the perfect play mat. If you have heard of C&C before you would know that Alice (31) has two loud toddlers Max (3) and Loki (18 months.) They are often the subject of her tweets, along with the chickens and stuffing the occasional lion. ‘I’m over the moon to have been picked, it’s a huge achievement!’ – Alice was pleased as punch to have been chosen, by the panel of top entrepreneur judges, which included former Dragon and Mumpreneur Hilary Devey.
The annual ceremony aimed at celebrating parents throughout the UK who manage the difficult task of juggling business with family life. Coconut and Chocolate won ‘Highly Commended’ for the Best Parent Blogger Award, which is open to businesses who physically work closely with clients, where interacting is an integral part of the job. ‘I’m often asked how do I run C&C and look after my two boys. I always reply with coffee, lots and lots of coffee!’
Alice gets her need to be close to a sewing machine from watching her mother sew and design her clothes as a child. Up until the age of five, Alice's mother loved to come up with new designs and beautiful clothes. Leo (Alice's mother) loved to use local Welsh wool in many of her designs and using local producers is still very important to C&C. Now Alice is using some of these designs, along with many of her family handmade original pieces, in the C&C's new mini person clothing range, which will be available in shops next year. Alice's family managed to keep, store and treasure, beautiful family items dating back to the 1800's, right the way through the 1940's to present day.
Coconut and Chocolate is currently getting funding to start a small factory providing apprentices for school leavers. I'm just one person but if we all do something to help create jobs then we can ensure these important skills are not lost to future generations.'
