APPRENTICES – YOU’RE HIRED!

An award ceremony was held at The Rowan Hospice Trading Company in Farlington to congratulate the Apprentices who successfully completed their level 2 NVQ in Customer Service. Whilst studying for the qualification they have been working in the charity shops and processing centre, gaining valuable work experience too.

Amy Palmer and Will Locke were presented with their certificates and they enjoyed a celebration tea with the Trading Company managers including Russell Sansom, manager of the North End shop and Andrew Cordery who was, until recently, manager of the Fratton Shop but is now based at the ‘Secret Warehouse’ in Farlington. Also successfully completing his apprenticeship was Dave Sturgeon who received his certificate and celebrated with the van drivers and processing team. All three of the apprentices have been offered full-time employment with the Trading Company.

Anne Yendell, Director of Income Generation and Communications, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer the three apprentices contracts on completion of their NVQs. They have worked hard and continue to grow in both skills and confidence levels and have proven to be an asset to the Trading Company.”

The charity receives approximately 17% of its funding from the Government; the remaining income has to be raised from people in the community, individuals, businesses and other organisations. All profits from The Rowans Hospice Trading Company are donated to the Hospice and go directly to funding services for people affected by life-shortening illnesses in Portsmouth and South East Hampshire.
