Health and fitness in 2018

Make it your best year yet!

This is going to be your best year yet, right? You are going to enter into the New Year with more swagger, vigour and energy than you have ever had before? Why do we all start January with these thoughts and feelings, and then before you know it life takes over and ‘boom’, you are on that de-motivated slope of not having time for anything and your entire motivation fly’s rapidly out of the window!

In my experience as a Nutritionist, you need to look at foods and super foods to give you all that your body needs to stop the cravings, and start your first steps to a healthier lifestyle. When you are experience that festive season indulgence, chemically your brain craves more and more sugars and saturated fats. The more you have, the more you want! Drinking alcohol seems at an all time high and so does eating cheese and chocolate! But it’s not all your fault…the body will naturally crave what it is being given, so that’s why it’s important to turn things around as quickly as you can once the New Year starts. Get rid of the biscuits, the chocolate and the prosecco. Simply get them out the enzyme activity and helps you to remove unwanted toxins from the body. It also provides the body with essential vitamins and minerals, which will help to stop the unwanted cravings and give you more natural energy. But don’t make the mistake of adding too many fruits to your smoothie. GO GREEN!!! The green vegetables contain iron, multi vitamins and help protect the body from free radicals, and we need this protection to prevent disease. Add celery, cucumber, lemon, spinach, apple and a handful of berries, banana or pineapple. Just make sure the vegetables are at least 50% of that smoothie in order to make it alkalising and nutritious, and of course ous.

When it comes to health, prevention is far better than any cure. I give talks all over the world, and one of my most passionate sentences when I am talking to groups of people is “Do not wait for that alarm bell to go off. You know the one, where you are in the hospital being told the results from your tests are not good’. I cannot express enough how many of us abuse our bodies. How many of us ignore warning signs such as pain, discomfort and/or inflammation. Our bodies are incredible, and they will do all that they can in order to look after us if we give it the right tools. But sometimes, they become overwhelmed house. Whatever is left over give it to someone else, donate it to charity, or put it in the bin. Remove the temptation and start shopping for the good stuff. Start with morning smoothies, adding super foods such as chlorella and Bee Pollen. This will immediately give you better digestion, increased and disease becomes real. It’s a whole lot harder to come back from that situation and you could feel as if you are treading treacle for a while. Putting the effort in to stay healthy is Key. However, do not lose heart if you are already suffering. In my clinics, I see people who are quite unwell, really reverse their health challenges time and time again. All I am saying is, if you have the privilege (and it is a privilege to be healthy) then try your best to keep it that way.

Regards exercise, it has to be something you love, otherwise you wont keep it up. Dance, individual sports, team sports, running clubs, biking and hiking are just a few that you could choose from. If you do have a health issue you know you need to deal with, why not book a personal Nutrition Consultation, either with me, or any other recommended practitioner. My clinics are based near Chichester, West Sussex and in Harley street in London. You cannot put a price on your health, it has to be a priority. The New Year is all about taking control of your life, your health and your success, whatever this may be. Start the year as you mean to go on.
