Presented by Pete Pitman, Tangmere Military Aviation Museum

After a short introduction covering the formation of the Special Operations Executive (SOE) in 1940 and the selection and training of its agents, hear about the exploits of No 161 Squadron's "pick-up" pilots, a small group of highly skilled men who flew Westland Lysander aircraft from RAF Tangmere to fields in German-occupied France, landing by torchlight to drop-off and pick up SOE agents. Illustrated throughout with contemporary photos, the presentation ends with a full reconstruction of a typical Lysander 'pick-up' operation from RAF Tangmere.
