Ayckbourn at the Station Theatre

The ingenious comic thriller ‘Communicating Doors’ by Alan Ayckbourn premièred in 1994, is playing from 22nd to 29th March. Tickets at £7 are available from the Box Office on 023 9246 6363 or www.hayling-dramatics.hampshire.org.uk

The year is 2014 and Phoebe (a ‘working girl’ calling herself Poopay), who specialises as a dominatrix, is summoned to a London hotel room by an infirm elderly businessman. The service he wants her to perform is not her usual bit of ‘fun and pain’ but to witness his confession detailing the murder of his two wives by his business associate - Julian.

When Julian walks in, Poopay flees through the nearest door and finds herself in an identical suite, but in the year 1994. Not surprisingly its occupant is sceptical but when it transpires that she is the second murdered wife and she too goes through the door and finds herself in 1974 and in the presence of the first murdered wife, she decides to rewrite the future.
