BILLY’S LAKE SUCCESS

Billy's Lake SuccessWith the help of Postcode Publications a local wildlife spot has received funding from Portsmouth Water Biodiversity Fund to install a solar powered aerator pump in the fishing lake.

For many years the lake has had a problem with the invasive duckweed which has always been removed manually by our team of volunteers. It’s a common complaint from all of the anglers who use the lake that it is becoming increasingly difficult to fish there due to the amount of duckweed. It is not only a nuisance for anglers, but having a blanket spread of surface duckweed significantly reduces the oxygen level in the lake which puts the fish and other aquatic life at risk of dying from suffocation, especially during the summer months. On recommendation from the Environment Agency, and thanks to the funding, we have installed a solar powered aerator pump to oxygenate the lake in order to reduce the duckweed and improve the health of the lake, plus improve angling conditions.
