Volunteering, it's a 'win win'!

Community First HEHVolunteering adds to 'quality of life' for both the participant and receiver. Corporate volunteering is beginning to become well established with some local companies in the Havant and East Hampshire areas.

A group of employees from Pfizer, based at New Lane, Havant, spent a morning talking to residents at Abbeyfield's home for older people. Janet Duggan, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Community First HEH says "With an ageing population more and more people are leaving their homes to live in a residential setting with many people having no friends or family for support. The purpose of the volunteers' visit was to talk to the residents, having fun with a quiz and serving home made cakes and tea. Having a visitor for just an hour can make a real difference to the life of an older person living in care and we welcome anyone interested in volunteering to contact us to find out how they can get involved".

HEH VolunteeringCharlotte Pettit a member of the Pfizer team volunteering at Abbeyfield summed up the feelings of those involved with her comment: "Today has been a wonderful experience to meet the residents and to hear some of their life stories. One of the volunteers at Abbeyfield uses Pfizer Enbrel Products which has given her a new lease of life after living with severe arthritis. We are grateful to be given the opportunity to volunteer in the community by Pfizer".
