Store's £15,000 Community Support for Emsworth

Emsworth community has been boosted by a £15,000 donation from The Southern Co-operative following the success of its Community Support Card scheme run in the local Emsworth store over the past year.

The Southern Co-operative’s Community Support Card (CSC) scheme relies on customer support but without costing shoppers a penny. The more cards are swiped, the quicker The Southern Cooperative donates towards the total sum.

In Emsworth, £10,000 of the £15,000 total has been donated to Emsworth Baptist Church Trust to support construction of its new community building, with a further £5000 donated to Innovations Fitness to run Fitbeat.

Patrick Laycock, Chair of Emsworth Baptist Church Trust said, "We are delighted to accept this cheque for £10,000 from The Southern Co-operative.

It comes just before work is due to start on our new community building in North Street. The support shown by the people of Emsworth with their use of the community support card at The Southern Co-operative store has been fantastic and a great boost to our funds as we commence our building work.

We'd like to thank everyone who has used their card and look forward to sharing our new building with them!"

George Turner, Director of Innovations Fitness, said: “Innovations Fitness is absolutely thrilled to be the recipients this year of The Southern Cooperative Community Support Card scheme. With this £5000, we will be able to do more to support the local clubs and create an even bigger and better day for the whole community to come down and enjoy.”

Retail Business Manager Garry Farne at The Southern Co-operative in Emsworth said; “Emsworth is very community spirited so local support is really strong here, making this another great success for our CSC scheme.”

He added: “We’ll be launching another CSC scheme to donate up to £15,000 to local good causes for the year ahead shortly, so do call into the store to pick up an application form and complete this by 1st July to apply
