Downton Abbey voted the ideal place to live

As Downton Abbey returns to our TV screens it seems that people in our area not only love the period drama – but would love to live in the castle where the series is set.

Research from five star housebuilder Barratt Homes reveals that almost a fifth of people would choose Downton Abbey as the ideal place to live – way ahead of the prospect of living in streets made famous by Emmerdale, EastEnders or Coronation Street.

In fact the One Poll study revealed that more people would like to live in the jungle than in Albert Square.

Barratt’s Michelle Storer said the results reinforce the importance of location when it comes to choosing a new home.

“People are discerning when it comes to choosing where to live and it’s no surprise that the glamour of a castle or the beauty of a rural location came out as the most popular,’’ said Michelle.

However Michelle says what while Downton Abbey may sound ideal – it doesn’t fulfil all priorities for those really looking for a new home.

In addition to the location she said the proximity of schools and colleges are also top of homeowners’ minds when considering a move with 34 per cent of home buyers citing this as a top priority.

The survey also revealed that while families consider good educational facilities a must, buyers also want to be close to local amenities and their work.

Michelle said the survey showed that today’s homebuyers are more selective and are looking for a complete package when purchasing a home.
