Celebrity Visit to Mengham Junior!

Steve Backshall at Mengha Juniors SchoolMengham Junior School staff and pupils were thrilled to have a special visit from wildlife presenter, naturalist and all-round adventurer Steve Backshall! The children had entered an exciting Ordnance Survey competition combining geography, wildlife and photography. Primary school children across Britain had taken part, the objective was to take wildlife photos and plot them on a map of their school’s area.

We were so excited to receive the phone call to say that we had won! The winning entries were from Jake Wilkes, Alex Germain and Kelvin Holdstock. The adults then had the tough task of keeping Steve’s visit a secret from the children. The looks on the children’s faces when Steve came into assembly were priceless. He answered lots of questions from the children then spent the rest of the morning taking a group of lucky children on a nature walk. Before he left he happily posed for the obligatory selfie! We all enjoyed the morning and I’m sure we will be talking about it for years to come.
